If you have had a website for very long you know personally that just because you have one doesn't mean financial results. In many cases most small businesses eventually drop their web presence because they feel they didn't make money with it.
Many small businesses won't even market it, change their company literature, or even their business cards. When you have something you want others to see you have to tell them you have it. Your website is about promoting your business, not making money. Making money is the objective, but you have to fulfill a purpose first, which is using it for exposure. You can't get one before you get the other.
BIG Mistake,
One of the biggest mistakes you can make in today's consumer market is not having a website. Businesses are now in the forefront of consumers practically demanding that you have one; if you don't, they move on. And rightly so. Consumers are looking for businesses that are offering them information on products and services they are seeking to help them make an educated decision on what company to use and what is in their best interest.
If you don't have a website and one that is properly designed, they will move on to a company that is taking this industry serious. Not having one is at your own business peril.
Some Good Advice,
Find a professional developer that has design and marketing / advertising experience and you will be on the road to offering consumers in your local area a resource that will educate them on whether or not it is you or someone else they should use.
